The pilgrimage is the greatest journey a Muslim can make. These are the supplications that accompany you at every stage — from the moment you enter iḥrām to the final ṭawāf.
The structure of Hajj: 1) Iḥrām + Talbiyah. 2) Ṭawāf around the Kaʿbah (7 circuits). 3) Saʿī between Ṣafā and Marwah (7 trips). 4) Day of ʿArafah (9th Dhul Ḥijjah). 5) Muzdalifah night. 6) Stoning the jamarāt. 7) Sacrifice (Qurbānī). 8) Ḥalq or taqṣīr. 9) Farewell Ṭawāf. Memorise the duas for each stage — they multiply the reward.
Dua 1
The Talbiyah
From the moment you enter iḥrām until the first pebble (Hajj) or Ṭawāf (Umrah)
Labbayka llāhumma labbayk, labbayka lā sharīka laka labbayk, inna l-ḥamda wa n-niʿmata laka wa l-mulk, lā sharīka lak.
Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Indeed, all praise, favour, and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner.
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1549, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1184 — narrated by ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUmar.
The anthem of the pilgrim. Recite it loudly (men) or quietly (women). Repeat it constantly — while walking, riding, climbing, descending.
Allāhumma zid hādha l-bayta tashrīfan wa taʿẓīman wa takrīman wa mahābah.
O Allah, increase this House in honour, reverence, nobility, and awe.
Narrated by al-Bayhaqī in Shuʿab al-Īmān.
The moment you first see the Kaʿbah is one of the most powerful moments in a Muslim's life. Raise your hands and make any personal dua — it is a moment of acceptance.
Dua 3
Between the Yamani Corner and the Black Stone
During each circuit of Ṭawāf, in the final stretch
Bismillāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm. Al-ḥamdu lillāhi Rabbi l-ʿālamīn. Ar-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm. Māliki yawmi d-dīn. Iyyāka naʿbudu wa iyyāka nastaʿīn. Ihdinā ṣ-ṣirāṭa l-mustaqīm. Ṣirāṭa lladhīna anʿamta ʿalayhim, ghayri l-maghḍūbi ʿalayhim wa la ḍ-ḍāllīn.
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is for Allah, Lord of all the worlds. The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Master of the Day of Judgement. You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help. Guide us to the straight path. The path of those You have blessed — not of those who have earned Your anger, nor of those who have gone astray.
Bismillāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm. Qul yā ayyuha l-kāfirūn. Lā aʿbudu mā taʿbudūn. Wa lā antum ʿābidūna mā aʿbud. Wa lā anā ʿābidun mā ʿabadtum. Wa lā antum ʿābidūna mā aʿbud. Lakum dīnukum wa liya dīn.
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Say: O disbelievers. I do not worship what you worship. Nor are you worshippers of what I worship. Nor will I be a worshipper of what you worship. Nor will you be worshippers of what I worship. For you is your religion, and for me is my religion.
Qul huwa llāhu Aḥad. Allāhu ṣ-Ṣamad. Lam yalid wa lam yūlad. Wa lam yakun lahu kufuwan aḥad.
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Say: He is Allah, the One. Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born. And there is none comparable to Him.
Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1218 — the Prophet ﷺ recited these two surahs in the two rakʿahs of Ṭawāf.
Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar. Lā ilāha illa llāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahu l-mulku wa lahu l-ḥamdu wa huwa ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīr, lā ilāha illa llāhu waḥdah, anjaza waʿdah, wa naṣara ʿabdah, wa hazama l-aḥzāba waḥdah.
Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. To Him belongs sovereignty and praise, and He is over all things capable. There is no god but Allah alone. He fulfilled His promise, supported His servant, and defeated the factions alone.
Quran 2:158, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1218 — from the hadith of Jābir describing the Prophet's Hajj.
Say the Quranic verse once at the start of Saʿī. Then on each ascent, face the Kaʿbah, make this dhikr, and add personal duas in between — repeating three times.
Dua 6
The Day of ʿArafah — the best dua
9th Dhul Ḥijjah, from after Ẓuhr until sunset, standing at ʿArafah
Lā ilāha illa llāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahu l-mulku wa lahu l-ḥamdu wa huwa ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīr.
There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. To Him belongs all sovereignty and praise, and He is over all things capable.
Tirmidhī 3585 — narrated by ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAmr.
The Prophet ﷺ said: “The best dua is the dua of the Day of ʿArafah, and the best thing that I and the Prophets before me have said is: Lā ilāha illa llāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah…” This is the single greatest day in the Islamic calendar.
Dua 7
At Muzdalifah
After Maghrib and ʿIshāʾ combined, and at dawn before departing
وَقَفْتُ هَاهُنَا وَجَمْعٌ كُلُّهَا مَوْقِفٌ
Waqaftu hāhunā wa Jamʿun kulluhā mawqif.
I have stopped here, but all of Muzdalifah is a stopping place.
Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1218 — from the hadith of Jābir describing the Prophet's Hajj.
There is no fixed formula — the Prophet ﷺ made dua extensively at al-Mashʿar al-Ḥarām. Pray Maghrib and ʿIshāʾ combined, collect pebbles for the jamarāt, rest, and make dua at dawn facing the Qiblah before departing — Muzdalifah is one of the most powerful nights of dua you will ever have.
Dua 8
Takbīrāt of Tashreeq
After every fard prayer from Fajr of 9th to ʿAṣr of 13th Dhul Ḥijjah
Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar, lā ilāha illa llāh, wa llāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar, wa lillāhi l-ḥamd.
Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. There is no god but Allah. And Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, and to Allah belongs all praise.
Narrated from Ibn Masʿūd and others.
These takbīrāt are wājib in the Ḥanafī school — recited once after every fard prayer during the Days of Tashreeq. Not just for pilgrims — every Muslim worldwide recites these.
Dua 9
When slaughtering the sacrifice
At the time of slaughter on Eid al-Aḍḥā (10th–12th Dhul Ḥijjah)
Bismillāhi wa llāhu Akbar, Allāhumma minka wa lak, Allāhumma taqabbal minnī.
In the name of Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. O Allah, this is from You and for You. O Allah, accept this from me.
Abū Dāwūd 2795, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1966.
Face the Qiblah, say Bismillāh and Allāhu Akbar, and slaughter. The Qurbānī is a continuation of Ibrāhīm's sacrifice — an act of ultimate submission.
Dua 10
After shaving or cutting hair
After ḥalq (shaving) or taqṣīr (trimming) at the end of Hajj or Umrah
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِلْمُحَلِّقِينَ
Allāhumma ghfir li-l-muḥalliqīn.
O Allah, forgive those who shave their heads.
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1728, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1301.
The Companions asked: “And those who trim, O Messenger of Allah?” He repeated the dua for those who shave. They asked a second time, and only on the third did he add: “And those who trim” (wa l-muqaṣṣirīn) — a clear preference for shaving (ḥalq) over trimming (taqṣīr), yet His mercy ﷺ ultimately included both.
