A path for everyone

Build the habit: Start with one or two — perhaps Bismillāh before meals and the home-entry dua. Once those settle, add more. The Prophet ﷺ said the most beloved deeds to Allah are the small ones done consistently. (Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 6464)

Dua 1

Before eating

Before any meal
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ
Bismillāh.
In the name of Allah.
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 5376. The Prophet ﷺ taught: “Mention the name of Allah, eat with your right hand, and eat from what is near you.”
Dua 2

If you forgot Bismillāh

Mid-meal, when you remember
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ فِي أَوَّلِهِ وَآخِرِهِ
Bismillāhi fī awwalihi wa ākhirih.
In the name of Allah, at its beginning and its end.
Abū Dāwūd 3767, Tirmidhī 1858.
Dua 3

After eating

On finishing a meal
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنِي هَٰذَا وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ
Al-ḥamdu lillāhi lladhī aṭʿamanī hādhā wa razaqanīhi min ghayri ḥawlin minnī wa lā quwwah.
All praise is for Allah who fed me this and provided it for me without any power or strength from myself.
Abū Dāwūd 4023, Tirmidhī 3458.
Whoever eats food and says this, his previous sins will be forgiven. (Tirmidhī 3458)
Dua 4

Dua for the host

After eating at someone's home
اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَهُمْ فِيمَا رَزَقْتَهُمْ، وَاغْفِرْ لَهُمْ وَارْحَمْهُمْ
Allāhumma bārik lahum fīmā razaqtahum, waghfir lahum warḥamhum.
O Allah, bless them in what You have provided for them, and forgive them and have mercy on them.
Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2042.
Dua 5

Stepping into the toilet

Bismillāh, Allāhumma innī aʿūdhu bika mina l-khubuthi wa l-khabāʾith.
In the name of Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from male and female devils.
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 142, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 375.
Enter with your left foot.
Dua 6

Leaving the bathroom

On stepping out
غُفْرَانَكَ
Ghufrānak.
I seek Your forgiveness.

Exit with your right foot.
Dua 17

After completing wudu

Immediately after finishing wudu (ablution)
Ashhadu an lā ilāha illa llāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, wa ashhadu anna Muḥammadan ʿabduhu wa rasūluh. Allāhumma jʿalnī mina t-tawwābīna wajʿalnī mina l-mutaṭahhirīn.
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger. O Allah, make me among those who repent and make me among those who purify themselves.
Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 234 — narrated by ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir. The closing "tawwābīn/mutaṭahhirīn" addition is from Tirmidhī 55.
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever performs wudu and does it well, then says this — the eight gates of Paradise will be opened for him, and he may enter through whichever one he wishes." (Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 234)
